Comic Printing: Choose Your Binding Style

The way your comic is bound has a significant impact on its look, feel and durability. At Pixartprinting, we offer two binding options for comic book printing, both delivering a professional, polished result:

  • Stapled Binding (Saddle Stitch): The traditional choice for comic book printing, stapled binding uses two metal staples through the spine of the folded pages to create a clean, flat finish that lies open naturally. Quick to produce, easy to handle and highly cost-effective, this is the classic format for single issues, zines and shorter publications.
  • Square Back: This option combines the convenience of stapled binding with a sturdier, more professional finish. The spine is pressed flat to create a square edge, making pages less likely to flip over on their own and improving the overall strength, stackability and handling of the finished comic. Square back binding allows for a larger number of inside pages on heavier papers and is available for all page sizes between 14 × 14 cm and 29.8 × 29.8 cm — ideal for thicker issues or premium graphic novels.

Custom Formats for Your Comic Book Printing Project

Comics come in all shapes and sizes, and our printing service reflects that. Choose from our most popular standard formats or enter your own custom dimensions to create a truly unique publication:

  • A4 (21 x 29.7 cm)
  • A5 (14.8 x 21 cm)
  • 21 x 21 cm
  • 16.5 x 24 cm
  • Custom format — enter your own width and height measurements

Both portrait and landscape orientations are available, giving you full creative freedom over the layout of your comic.

Calculating Your Page Count

When setting up your comic for print, the total page count must be a multiple of two and must include the four pages that make up the cover — front, back, inside front and inside back — plus all of your inside pages. Remember that one sheet equals two pages: the front and the back. So, for example, if your comic has 80 inside pages, the total page count will be 84 (80 inside pages plus 4 cover pages). We strongly recommend downloading our Template and Instructions before preparing your artwork file to ensure everything is set up correctly for print.

Print Your Own Comic on Premium Paper

The paper you choose sets the tone for your entire publication. Our comic printing service offers eight carefully selected paper stocks to suit every creative style and budget:

  • Classic Demimatt — A long-lasting matt coated paper that enhances photographic detail and produces sharp, clear text. A popular choice for image-led comics with rich artwork.
  • Classic Gloss — A bright, gloss coated paper with a silky finish that makes colours leap off the page. Perfect for bold, vibrant full-colour artwork.
  • Classic Uncoated — A versatile, brilliant white uncoated paper, particularly well suited to text-heavy pages and black-and-white sketch-style comics.
  • Classic Ivory Uncoated — A warm-toned, 70 gsm ivory paper with high opacity and a natural surface that reduces eye strain. Ideal for longer reads and black-and-white editorial-style comics.
  • Extraprint — A smooth, brilliant white uncoated stock with a velvety surface and excellent colour reproduction. A highly versatile choice for comics that blend text and full-colour illustration.
  • Rembrandt — A stipple-textured, laid uncoated paper that produces sharp printing with bright colours. Its distinctive surface gives your comic a unique, tactile quality.
  • Underwood (Woodstock Birch) — An ivory-toned paper with a natural, tactile feel and a subtly textured surface. Ideal for independent creators looking for an eco-conscious, premium aesthetic.
  • Recycled — Made from 100% recycled fibres, this environmentally friendly paper is a responsible choice that lends character and warmth to your publication.

Special Finishes and Lamination to Elevate Your Comic Cover

Your cover is the first thing readers see, so make it count. Pixartprinting offers a range of lamination and special finish options to give your comic book a truly professional, eye-catching appearance:

  • Matt lamination — a subtle, non-reflective finish for a sophisticated and understated look.
  • Gloss lamination — a high-shine coating that intensifies colours and adds a slick, commercial feel to your cover.
  • Soft-touch lamination — a velvety, tactile finish that feels as premium as it looks, perfect for limited-edition or collector's issues.

For something even more striking, add one of our exclusive special finishes to your cover: 3D varnish creates a raised, tactile effect that draws the eye to key design elements, while gold foil and silver foil blocking add a dazzling metallic detail that makes your comic stand out on any shelf.

Comic Book Printing from Just One Single Copy

One of the most common barriers for independent comic creators is minimum print run requirements. At Pixartprinting, there are none. You can print your own comic from just one single copy — whether you're producing a prototype, a limited-edition run for a convention, or testing the market before committing to a larger print run. Scale up whenever you're ready, with our competitive pricing making larger quantities even more affordable.
